Shyla Ann Tang was born in Vancouver, British Columbia on December 19, 2013. She loved, and was loved by, her parents and sister and cousins. Shyla was blessed with many talents. She enjoyed dancing, singing, swimming and fashion—a bright shining star with boundless life and energy.
December 5, 2016 life changed forever. Shyla was diagnosed with a rare form of childhood cancer called Rhabdomyosarcoma. The road was long and arduous. Despite this, however, Shyla persevered. She never gave up hope and never stopped smiling. She continued to live life to the fullest bringing joy and laughter to those around her. She embodied an awe-inspiring amount of love, strength and resilience.
Although Shyla passed on at the tender age of 5 on December 18, 2019—just shy of her 6th birthday—she continues to impact lives in so many ways. Shyla’s life and journey has touched the lives of many and continues to remind us all about the resilience of the human spirit, of community, of hope, of all the love, joy, and goodness in the world. She will be so dearly missed, but she lives on in our hearts forever.
Shyla’s family is incredibly grateful for the outpouring of love, support and generosity received from numerous charitable organizations throughout Shyla’s journey. Today, their mission is to forever pay-it-forward. Every facemask is made in loving memory of Shyla Tang and each one sold will go to help families with children fighting cancer.
